Few weekends ago I went to visit Rütli, a mountain meadow on Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) where Switzerland was founded in 1291.
Despite I live in Luzern for some time now, I still haven’t explored all of its corners. Previous weekend my husband and I went to one of the parts of Luzern we’ve never been to – to Bireggwald, a peaceful forrest in the midst of Luzern with a lovely walking trails and plentiful of stunning panoramic views of the Lake Luzern (Vierwaldstättersee) and Mt. Pilatus.
Klewenalp-Stockhütte is small ski resort in Central Switzerland I have visited in mid-March with my husband. This ski resort consist of two areas: Klewenalp, which is accessible by aerial gondola from the village of Beckenried and Stockhütte , which is accessible by cable car from the village of Emmeten.
Stoos is a mountain village located at alpine plateau in the canton of Schwyz, 1300 meters above sea level. In winter it turns to ski resort, but in other seasons is a popular hiking destination. On one Sunday in October, my husband and went there to hike.
Meggenhorn Castle is a lovely 17th century castle located on the peninsula of Meggen on the northern shore of the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne). It is one of my favourite places in Luzern area. The estate has been open for public since 1974 and has no entrance fee. It’s scenic and peaceful spot, popular with the locals, but not yet discovered by the masses of tourists.
Few days ago, when the sunny weather and summer temperatures finally reached Switzerland, I went for an evening cycle ride around Lucerne. Despite I already walked and cycled those areas many times before, I massively enjoyed the ride. It was great to rediscover the beauty of the place I now call home on such a lovely evening.
Hope you’ll enjoy the photos I took during my ride as much as I enjoyed making them.
Since my husband and I moved to Lucerne, we’ve visited most of the popular mountains in central Switzerland. 1898 meters high Stanserhorn is the latest summit of this area we’ve conquered few weeks ago.
Stanserhorn can be found in the canton Nidwalden and is one of many Swiss mountains that can be reached by public transport. A funicular railway and cable car from the town of Stans can take you all the way to the top. There is also plenty of hiking trails, but as I suffered from minor knee injury, we opted for easier option – public transport. Continue reading
Few Sundays ago my husband and I went on a walk along the banks of Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee). We walked all the way from Ufschötti beach to Lido beach at the other side of the bay. Despite the changing weather (one moment we had sun, the very next it snowed), it was a nice walk. Here are few impressions from it:
When my brother was visiting in the summer, my husband and I took him to Bürgenstock, a scenic place atop of a mountain ridge above the Lake Lucerne. Some may remember, we’ve already visited Bürgenstock earlier this year. Because we liked this place a lot, we decided to revisit with it my brother.
Luzern is located by the Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee). In the hot summer, as is this year’s, is the perfect spot to cool down. There are many public beaches all around the lake. Some are free of charge, while others charge entrance fee. Strandbad Tribschen is one of those who charge entrance fee. For a fee of 5 CHF (adult), you can enter the area and use the facilities: children’s pool, showers, dressing rooms, bar, football and volleyball fields, etc. For additional fee, you can borrow the sports equipment (e.g. sup, boat).
