Cats of the world

Hi, I’m Urška and I’m a crazy cat lady. I also love to travel. Wherever in the world I meet feline creature I try to befriend it or at least take a picture of it. No wonder there are plenty of cat photos in my photo library. Here below are some of those pictures of the cuties I’ve met and photographed on my travels:

Iceland. Day 5: Relaxing at Blue Lagoon

When you’re having a good time, time flies and too soon, our trip to Iceland has come to an end. On our last day in Iceland my husband and I headed to the no. 1 attraction in Iceland – the famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. Located in a lava field, about 50 kilometres from Reykjavík is unlike some other thermal waters found in Iceland manmade. It was formed by “accident” in 1976 when run-off from the nearby geothermal power plant formed a pool. In the years that followed, the benefits of the bright blue water to the skin were discovered and spa was built on site. Blue Lagoon soon became a popular spot to visit.

Iceland. Day 4: The Golden Circle

On our fourth day in Iceland, my husband and I took a tour almost every tourist in Iceland does – the Golden Circle, a circle route comprising Iceland’s natural wonders: Þingvellir National ParkGeysir & Gulfoss waterfall. As those three sights were not enough for us, we’ve added Kerið Crater and Brúarfoss waterfall as additional stops on our tour.

Iceland. Day 3: Dyrhólaey & Sólheimajökull glacier hike

On our third day in Iceland, my husband and I left Vík for Reykjavik. On our way there we stopped at the Dyrhólaey and Sólheimajökull glacier.

Dyrhólaey

Dyrhólaey is a 120 metres high promontory located 10 km west of Vík and is of the most famous sights in Vík area. We followed the Road 281 which took us directly to the rocky plateau where we left our car and went out exploring. The views from there were breathtaking. We admired impressive views to Reynisfjara beach and Reynisdrangar, we’ve already admired on our first day in Iceland. This time we saw them from different direction. Continue reading

Iceland. Day 1: Waterfalls & Black Sand Beaches

Our flight from Basel Airport to Iceland was scheduled at 7am, what means we had to leave our home in Lucerne in the middle of the night. We completed packing late in the evening and instead of going to bed, we had to watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones to find out whether Jon Snow lives or not. Waking up after just few hours of sleep was definitely painful, but at least we got to know the Jon Snow’s faith. The expectations of another amazing trip kept us going.

Amazing Icelandic landscape: Vikurfjara black sand beach

We’ve managed to sleep through most of the flight. After we’ve landed at Keflavik airport I was surprisingly well rested. At the airport we’ve picked our rental car and hit the road towards Vík – the tiny town at the Iceland’s south coast we’ve chosen as our basis for the next two nights. We’d followed the Ring Road (Route 1) – a national road that runs around the island and connects most of the inhabited parts of the country. In the first hour of our drive, we’ve experienced everything what unpredictable Icelandic weather has to offer: sun, snow, heavy rain and even hail. Continue reading

Trip to Iceland: Overview

At the beginning, I would like to thank all of you who assisted me with tips and suggestions for my trip to Iceland  They were extremely helpful in deciding on what to do and see! Thank you!

Now, a little bit about my trip… My husband and I explored Iceland from 3rd to 7th May 2016. 5 days were not nearly enough to see everything what Iceland has to offer, but it was enough to get the sense how wild, pristine and stunningly beautiful this country is.
