Spring skiing at Klewenalp-Stockhütte

Klewenalp-Stockhütte is small ski resort in Central Switzerland I have visited in mid-March with my husband. This ski resort consist of two areas: Klewenalp, which is accessible by aerial gondola from the village of Beckenried and Stockhütte , which is accessible by cable car from the village of Emmeten.

The valley stations in both villages are located about 20 minutes car drive from Lucerne, both in close proximity of the highway A2 Luzern-Chiasso. Ski resort is therefore ideally located for us based in Lucerne.

On sunny Saturday in March we drove to Beckenried. We parked our car by the valley station, grabbed our ski gear and took a gondola to the Klewenalp ski area. The resort is small and very easy to navigate. We found our way around the slopes pretty quickly.

The lift system is not the best I’ve ever experienced, but it worked well. Except from the gondola from Beckenried, which was very busy in the morning, we never queued long for the lifts.

The Klewenalp-Stockhütte resort is located in the mountains above the Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee). The panoramic views from the ski slopes are amazing. You can see the lake and the surrounding mountains. This time of the year, I found especially beautiful the contrast between the white snow at mountains, the bright green pastures in the valley and the blue colour of the lake. Klewenalp is definitely one of the ski resorts with the most lovely views I’ve ever visited.

We’ve already skied at Klewenalp-Stockhütte few years ago, when I started to ski after a decade-long pause. Then, it was perfect place for me to gain confidence and refresh my ski-skills. The slopes are in my opinion ideal for beginners: not too steep, not too long and not too busy.

My experience of skiing at Klewenalp-Stockhütte now, after I’ve obtained skills and confidence to ski all kinds of ski slopes, was a bit different. I found the majority of slopes at Klewenalp too short and too easy. Luckily, there was still one lovely long red ski run I’ve enjoyed a lot. We’ve skied there most of the time and had a lot of fun.

On the day we’ve been to Klewenalp, we’ve also found out Swiss ski manufacturer Stöckli has organised a free testing of their skis. Of course, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to test some of the newest skis of this Swiss brand well known to us because of Slovenian ski racers Tina Maze and Ilka Štuhec. They both compete(d) on Stöckli skis and won various medals and titles – for example, Tina won two Olympic Gold medals in 2014 and Ilka World Champion title in downhill in 2017. Testing brand new models of skis was fun. I wouldn’t mind switching my skis for one or two models I’ve tested.

The slopes of Klewenalp were considering the warm spring weather conditions well prepared. We arrived to the ski resort early enough to fully exploit the cooler morning temperatures. In the afternoon, after the temperatures rose, the snow became slushy. Non of us likes to ski on such surface, so we’ve stopped by one of the huts and enjoyed in the warm spring sun instead.

Despite it is not the best nor the most exciting ski resort, we’ve ever skied at, we both liked Klewenalp-Stöckhutte enough we’ll probably return next season. It is conveniently close to Luzern and offer just enough for a day of skiing.
