Stražun forrest is a large green space in my hometown Maribor in Slovenia and is a popular spot for walking and jogging. As it lies in close proximity to my parents’ home, I often go there for a walk with my parents’ dogs.
Stražun is the last larger remaining part of the forrest that used to cover the Drava Valley. It is mixed forest, in which prevail Beech trees, Red pine, Oak and Hornbeam.
Stražun forrest is still a home to many wild animals, like birds, deers, wild rabbits, squirrels, etc. Most of those animals are rarely seen as they tend to avoid humans and stay in their shelters during the day. But if you find yourself in the forrest very early in the morning or late in the evening, you might spot a deer, a wild rabbit or a squirrel.
